Spain: After a Train Collision on the Madrid–Seville Line, Train Drivers Call Strikes for November 10 and 12
At least 69 people died in the October 28 crash near Toledo. The Semaf train drivers’ union is demanding urgent safety measures and has called strikes at Renfe.
Friends, sad news from Spain — and important if you’re planning to travel there in November.
On Wednesday, October 28, two trains collided near the small town of Urda (in the province of Toledo) on the key Madrid–Seville line. According to Euronews, at least 69 people died and 39 remain in the hospital. The country has declared a period of mourning.
What we know: - according to investigators’ preliminary findings, the LZB automatic train protection system shut off before the collision; the cause of the crash is still being determined; - the Semaf train drivers’ union has called strikes at Renfe for November 10 and 12 and is demanding an urgent overhaul of safety rules.
My advice: if you have train travel in Spain on November 10 or 12, check the schedule on the Renfe website and have a backup plan.
Rules and deadlines may change — always check the official source.
