South Florida: King Tides, Heavy Rain and Wind Starting Sunday — Flooding Possible
CBS Miami has issued a weather alert starting October 25: heavy rain, gusts of 30–40 mph and high water along the coast.
Friends, plan your weekend around the weather.
King tides — the highest tides of the year — are back in South Florida. They’re expected to peak at the end of the weekend and early next week. Rain is coming on top of that: scattered showers start Friday, pick up on Saturday and will be heaviest on Sunday. That’s why CBS Miami has issued a NEXT Weather Alert from Sunday, October 25, through Tuesday.
What to expect:
- on Sunday — a Level 2 risk of heavy rain and localized flooding;
- Sunday into Monday — wind gusts of 30–40 mph or stronger;
- along the coast — moderate to major flooding in low-lying areas;
- on Atlantic beaches — dangerous rip currents.
My advice: don’t leave your car parked on low-lying streets near the water (Brickell, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale’s waterfront neighborhoods), check the storm drains around your home, and don’t drive into standing water — salt water ruins a car fast.
