Social Security Benefits Will Rise 3.6% Starting January 2027
Tens of millions of Social Security and SSI recipients will get the increase. Notices will appear in my Social Security accounts at the end of November.
Friends, some good numbers for everyone who receives Social Security.
The Social Security Administration has announced the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027: benefits will go up by 3.6%.
The key points:
- nearly 72 million Social Security beneficiaries will see the new amount in January 2027;
- about 7.3 million SSI recipients will see it starting December 31, 2026;
- the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax will rise to $192,300;
- the earnings limit for people who work while collecting benefits before full retirement age will be $25,560 a year.
Notices with your new amount will appear at the end of November in the Message Center of your my Social Security account. To get yours online, you need to create an account by November 18.
My advice: don’t respond to calls or emails “from Social Security” asking you to confirm your information — all notices are free and come only through the official website or by mail.
