Scooters and E‑Bikes in Miami: No More Sidewalks, 20 mph Max
The City of Miami has approved new rules for e-scooters and e-bikes — they take effect in about 10 days.
Friends, if you get around Miami on a scooter or an e-bike, this one’s for you.
On October 22, the Miami City Commission approved new rules for e-scooters, e-bikes and other personal electric devices. They’ll take effect in about 10 days:
- you can ride only in bike lanes and on the road — sidewalks are off-limits;
- the top speed is 20 mph;
- riders must be at least 16 years old.
At the same meeting, the commission sharply raised fines for animal cruelty: now $2,500 for a first offense, $5,000 for a second and $7,500 for a third.
My advice: if your teenager rides a scooter to school, check their age and route now. These rules apply in the City of Miami — other cities in the county may have their own.
