FPL Proposes Its 2027 Rates: A Slightly Lower Bill, but With a Surcharge for Hurricane Isaias

At 1,000 kWh a month, the 2027 bill would be $141.87 — including a new temporary $3.48 surcharge. Regulators still have to approve the proposal.

Friends, if you pay FPL for your electricity, here’s what’s in store for your bill in 2027.

The company has filed a proposal: at 1,000 kWh a month, the bill would be $141.87. That’s $1.18 less than the $143.05 projected for January 2027 back in 2025, when the four-year rate agreement was approved.

What’s in it: - a new temporary surcharge to recover costs from Hurricane Isaias — $3.48 per 1,000 kWh, already included in the $141.87; - the surcharge would apply from January through December 2027; - FPL attributes the decrease mainly to cheaper natural gas.

For now this is only a proposal — it still needs approval from the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC). If it’s approved, the changes will show up on January 2027 bills. My advice: keep an eye on the decision on FPL’s website.
