DV-2027 Green Card Lottery: A Court Orders the State Department to Open Registration by November 1
The 2027 green card lottery never opened — but a court has now given the State Department strict deadlines.
Friends, so many of you have been asking me about the green card lottery. Here’s what’s going on.
The DV-2027 lottery never opened: back in November 2025, the US State Department said it was changing the application rules, and it never announced a start date. Then, on October 14, 2026, a federal court in California ordered the State Department to run the lottery on a set schedule:
- by October 29 — announce the dates and the rules for entering;
- by November 1 — open registration for 30 days;
- by December 3 — notify the winners.
The government can appeal the ruling, so these deadlines could still shift. I’m watching closely and will post as soon as the dates are announced.
And please, I’m begging you: entering is free, and applications are submitted only at dvprogram.state.gov. Anyone who promises to “boost your chances” or tells you registration is already open is a scammer.
