Friends, if you have loved ones in India or travel plans in South Asia, take a look at this.
On the morning of October 28, Cyclone Arnab made landfall on India’s east coast, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department classified it as a “very severe cyclonic storm”: winds up to 135 km/h, with gusts up to 150 km/h.
- more than 180,000 people were evacuated in advance in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha;
- three airports in the state suspended operations, and some trains and flights were canceled;
- Nepal suspended high-altitude trekking permits for three days.
By the morning of October 29, the storm had moved inland and was weakening. My advice: if you’re flying to India or through India in the next few days, check your flight status with the airline.
